Ask Movie Slate - Episode 172

Happy (belated) Valentine's Day everyone.

I think pink is a fairly alright color, but when used in excess I think it can be quite overbearing, especially when it's overused. Like, for example, in St. Valentine's Day. Because of that excess of pink, I went bonkers with the lighting and coloring of this drawing and decided to drown it in pinks. I wanted to turn the color pink into a sickly, overwhelming and suffocating color, kind of like how the greens and blues are in any horror and sci-fi movie respectively. As a result, I ended up drenching the canvas in pink. I won't call this my best piece, but that's what Movie Slate is for. She's my testing grounds. This is where I learned never to over-do a color so much again.

"Fatal Attraction" is one of those movies that works really well within the decade that is set, but when looking back to it I think it doesn't even remotely hold up. It still works as a really good thriller, it has good moments of tension, and the character of Alex Forrest is so despicable and has such a satisfying death that makes her somewhat memorable. She is a grim reminder of what could happen to all couples that are unfaithful to their loved ones. But one character isn't enough to keep a movie together, and the way this one is hasn't aged really well. Still, back then it was good enough to deserve 6 Oscar nominations. I guess context and time frame is everything, especially when it comes to art, right?

Yes, Chrysalis is about to eat one of the denizens of Wuvy-Dovey Smoochy Land and she has zero regrets about doing so. I also have zero regrets in portraying it, of course. I love the cuddly critters from Wuvy-Dovey Smoochy Land as much as the next guy, but seeing Chrysalis devour the hell out of them in the comics is too enjoyable for me not to do the same. Also drawing Cadence in juxtaposition to Chrysalis is always a lot of fun. I like them for respectively, but Chryssy is slowly turning into the more interesting character (especially if you read the comics). I love how Movie Slate came out rather oblivious about what's transpiring in her theater booth. No matter how much time passes, she'll never stop ponies from showing up at her work place.

Please, let me know what you think of it in the comments. I appreciate each and every single one I receive.

Thank you! I hope you guys enjoy the picture!
