Ask Movie Slate - Episode 201

Featuring the lovable zombie pony Paul Peoples, created by the awesome :iconpaulpeopless:

I think I've finally managed to get the knack for doing new Movie Slate updates as fast as I used to a few years ago. For some reason I slowed down in the production of these pictures, be it real life issues or the usual artist self-doubts, but now I've started to speed up and getting them done relatively fast. It might not seem like a lot, but inking Movie Slate usually takes a ridiculous amount of time, especially because of that devious mane of hers. You might not think much about it, but it can take a good thirty minutes to an hour to ink the whole thing.

"Warm Bodies" is one of the most disappointing movies I've seen in quite some time. I don't happen to hate it as much as almost every single other person I've talked to, but I have no problem seeing why it causes them to groan in annoyance at it. I've seen people call it "Twilight but with Zombies" and that's very much what the movie is. It's like Twilight but with zombies instead of werewolves and vampires, and while there are some inventive things hidden in there somewhere, it's difficult to appreciate it due to the overload of clichés and tropes of their respective genre (romance, comedy and zombies). There's even a "hiding the monster" scene where they sneak up the main zombie character into a military base, which has the movie walking a very thin line close to self-awareness and auto-parody. This would be fine if it was both intentional and more frequent. Unfortunately it's played with a straight face instead of for laughs, so it all comes across as tedious and repetitive, which is rather bizarre coming from a movie about a girl that reverts a zombie back to human through the power of love. The only thing I'd personally salvage from the movie is the acting and the chemistry between the actors. Nicholas Hoult, who plays R (and you all know him as Nux from Mad Max: Fury Road, and Hank McCoy from X-Men: First Class) is fucking amazing at conveying emotion while keeping that brain dead zombie expression, and Teresa Palmer makes for a very good counterpart. These actors deserve a better movie than this. So personally I'd skip it, unless you're really needy to watch something with zombies in it.

Oddly enough, this one has been on the submission queue ever since it was first released all the way in 2013. I've always wanted to do a review for this one, but never managed to get a proper idea for it. The concept of zombies is not a very problematic one except for the fact that I find it incredibly boring, so doing something interesting with it is a mix of breaking through the monotony and getting an idea to work. Then I was approached by :iconpaulpeopless: who shared my thoughts on "Warm Bodies" and had a pony OC that fitted the theme. Add the recent MLP episode about the cookie zombies, and this is the result.

I hope you guys enjoy the picture!

Please, let me know what you think of it in the comments. I appreciate and every single one I receive.

Thank you!

couldn't, literally couldn't get into this, I'm sorry to say but to me, it was more of a ripoff of daybreakers~https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGrpoxBlCNo cause of the savage zombies and the savage vampires and R being like the main guy in Daybreakers, not wanting to be a zombie and trying his hardest to be 'normal'. also zombies for me are emotionless and just flesh hungry undead beings and I can't see in any universe where they fall in love with humans.they're food, not friends.

I love the colors you used on this though
