Ask Movie Slate - Episode 168

I mean, come on you guys. This year is the year of Star Wars. I started it by talking about Star Wars in Movie Slate's blog, it's the Christmas season, Star Wars came out around the same time, it made a lot of sense to me. It seems every reviewer out there had the same idea, because guys like JonTron and The Cinema Snob did their own reviews of it.

And boy, do I absolutely agree with everyone who has reviewed this movie already.

I wish I could say it is a guilty pleasure, and that it's so bad it's amazing, and go check it out right now, but no. Far from it. I want to join George Lucas in destroying every goddamn copy of this atrocity that we could find. You'd think I'm exaggerating when I say more than half of this ninety-minute long special is nothing but Wookies belling and screaming like dying elephants, but that's exactly what it is! It's like a very fluffy and very loud sensory deprivation tank where minutes feel like hours, and hours feel like weeks. It's awkward, badly put together, and just an overall complete mess. You can ignore all the belly aching about the prequels, this is the absolute worst thing with the Star Wars name on it (I kind of stomached that Clone Wars movie, if only because at least it showed some effort thrown into it).

So it made sense to me that the update had to focus on the one element that made the special so goddamn unbearable, and that was the constant Wookie shouting and screaming! Flufflepuff was Chewbacca in Movie Slate's review of Episode IV, so of course I had to keep the continuity by expanding her family. And also it's always a lot of fun to draw Pirate Dash as Han Solo. I even had Teej help me write her dialogue. I'll let you guys figure out what her pun is, you will groan super hard when you guess it.

Movie Slate isn't amused with it whatsoever, and that's perhaps because of how much of a traditional Star Wars fan she has become. I wonder what she'll think of the new Star Wars movie. I hope you guys enjoy the drawing! Feel free to let me know what you think of it in the comments, I encourage you to discuss this and all the Star Wars movies as well (though keep the spoilers at bay, especially for the newest movie).

Thank you!

You can check the update on Movie Slate's blog right here.

Featuring: A bunch of Flufflepuffs as Chewbacca's family, and :icontoonboy92484: as Han Solo.

I know this is an old pic and that jokes about the Star Wars Holiday Special have been done to death, but...

I agree with you on this. I'll take Jar Jar and that stupid sand line over Chewie's grandpa jerking off to interspecies VR porn any day (and I can't believe I just said that while knowing that it exists).

That said, I did find some use for the "Stir, Whip" joke.

By the way, this special got broadcast in other countries and even got a French dub. And it's one of the crummiest dub I've seen. The translation is awful, none of the voice actors from the movies come back and they called Chewie's grandpa his brother. Ah, and the Harvey Korman cooking show had him being dubbed by a woman and this actually made that part funny to me. Thankfully, they cut the VR porn part.
