Ask Movie Slate - Episode 203 - The Room.

I love drawing crazy. I love drawing crazy and I love drawing crazy inside a padded cell. I have no idea what it is, but I have a knack for this concept, so drawing Movie Slate inside a padded cell and completely bonkers was an idea I just couldn't refuse to draw. I have to draw more crazy more often, no matter how long it takes to decorate their cells or how much do I have to justify their madness. Seriously, crazy ponies and crazy faces are ridiculously funny and enjoyable to draw. There should be a national day dedicated to draw them.

Tommy Wiseau's "The Room". What can I say that hasn't been said before? "The Room", the movie that's simultaneously the Citizen Kane and the Plan 9 from Outer Space of this generation. The movie that created an endless battery of memes and quotes. The experience that movie fans go to just so they can toss plastic spoons at the screen and laugh their asses off. The cash cow that Tommy Wiseau put together and that he has been consistently milking since 2003. I'm not entirely sure if I'm part of those who enjoy how bad the movie is, because to me it feels like a movie that was scripted to be this bad. With the works of Uwe Boll or Ed Wood there was some sort of sincerity in the way they made their movies. In the case of Boll there was blunt ineptitude and stupidity, a purposeful approach made to turn movies into gigantic box office bombs that would get his investors in Germany a tax right off. In the case of Ed Wood there was a raw lack of talent and natural clumsiness in the way of directing and setting up the shots, but this was fueled by wide-eyed innocence more than malice. In the case of "The Room" I don't see either innocence nor bluntness. It all feels way too perfect, way too much like Wiseau knows what he's doing here. If this is the case then "The Room" is an ingeniously manipulative tour-DE-force that shouldn't be taken for granted. People make charts and maps on how to understand Christopher Nolan movies. I say we need to put together a map where we try to understand the purpose of this movie. I might not be the biggest fan of it, but my lip doesn't quiver when I say go give it a watch. It really is one of those "you have to see it to believe it" movies.

Also, yes, she's wearing a straight jacket tuxedo. I wonder why straight jackets don't come on more different styles and looks. Like, not different in the way they work, but in the way they look.

Please, let me know what you think of it in the comments. I appreciate and every single one I receive.

Thank you!

By the way, if that movie breaks her...

I'd hate to see her reaction to The Amazing Bulk.

Or even worse...Caligula...(shudders)
